The Metolius River is one of the largest spring creeks in the Northwest and a major tributary to the Deschutes River.  The gin-clear Metolius River is a unique fly-fishing-only fishery that has challenging and wily rainbows yet also plays host to one of the healthiest populations of bull trout in the western United States.  During the late summer months through winter and early spring, anglers switch from 3 to 8 weights to target the voracious bull trout that reach 15 pounds.

The Metolius River is a world-class rainbow and bull trout spring creek fishery located in central Oregon. The Metolius, a fly-fishing-only river, is one of the last remaining habitats for the threatened bull trout, which grow up to 15 pounds and are found throughout the watershed. Recent population surveys indicate that the bull trout population is increasing in the Metolius, which is a testament to the excellent water quality and habitat that distinguishes this river. Fishing for bull trout is generally best in fall, winter and early spring when the fish feed aggressively on rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, and anything else they can fit in their mouths.  Bull trout will eat anything from the largest streamer patterns (8 inches in length!) to small nymphs, but subsurface flies are generally the key.  The bull trout move into the Metolius in the late summer to spawn and feed on the kokanee salmon that also move into the river through Lake Creek to spawn, also located on the property.  An 8-weight fly rod is a good choice for these hard fighting fish.

The Metolius also supports a healthy population of native redband rainbow trout, some of which are up to 23 inches. The Metolius redbands are some of the most beautiful rainbows in the West with brilliant pink and red stripes and large spots. They are hard fighting fish and healthy due to the enormous amount of insect life and smaller fish found in this spring creek.  Although not as plentiful as in other streams in Central Oregon, there are plenty of nice rainbows here to draw anglers from all over the West.  Catching these wily rainbows requires standard spring creek tactics and offers even the most seasoned angler a real challenge. Keys to success include a careful approach, long leaders, good presentation and perfect drift.  Fish can be caught year round on the standard nymph patterns and anglers occasionally find themselves in excellent hatches of blue-winged olives, caddis, green drakes, and March browns.

Deschutes and Willamette National Forests are both in close proximity to Camp Sherman.  Totaling a combined 4.4 million acres and covering multiple counties on both the east and west sides of the Cascade Mountain Range, these public lands offer backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, mountain climbing and downhill skiing.  Within the Willamette National Forest is the Mount Jefferson Wilderness area. Mount Jefferson is the 2nd highest mountain in Oregon and can be viewed from the Metolius River.  The Three Sisters Wilderness in the Deschutes National Forest is just south of Camp Sherman and make up the third, fourth and fifth highest peaks in Oregon.

Metolius Riverfront Parcel offers an ideal fishing retreat for the discerning fly angler with almost 0.1 mile of frontage on the Metolius River and Lake Creek.  Enjoy the last undeveloped deeded parcel on the famous Metolius River with close proximity to millions of acres of public lands, restaurants, ski resorts, golf courses, medical facilities and domestic air services.  The property offers an incoming owner the secluded privacy to “get away from it all”, yet offers nearby resort amenities.
